Tencel is a revolutionary eco-friendly and economical fibre. It is spun from a renewable resource, pulp from eucalyptus wood. The main difference with other viscose filaments is that pulping happens in a closed loop system in which the solvents are re-used. This unique closed loop production process makes lyocell a eco-friendly and yet very modern fibre. In addition the dyeing process requires much less dyes than cotton. Ecological Textiles offers both knitted and woven fabrics that are made from Tencel®, a high quality lyocell yarn produced by Lenzing.
TENCEL is a man-made fibre (a viscose) that is on the forefront of textile innovation – where sustainability meets comfort. Because TENCEL offers a superior blend of eco-consciousness, durability, and luxurious softness it is the only material that we, at Ecological Textiles, provide that is not entirely natural.
TENCEL is a brand name of the Austrian company Lenzing, the actual name of the material is lyocel. TENCEL is derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp, making it an environmentally friendly choice for conscious consumers. This innovative fibre is produced through an eco-responsible closed-loop process, where up to 99% of solvents are recycled, minimising waste and environmental impact.
Tencel fabrics are renowned for their ultra-soft texture and gentle touch on the skin, tencel garments offer a luxurious wearing experience. The breathability of tencel ensures optimal moisture absorption, keeping you cool and dry even on hot days.
In addition Tencel fabrics have good anti-bacterial properties which is why they are widely used in casual wear or sportswear. An additional advantage is that Tencel is very absorbent, which means that less colouring substances are needed in the dyeing process.

Despite its delicate feel, tencel is exceptionally strong and resilient, offering long-lasting wear and tear resistance. Whether you're looking for bedding, clothing, or upholstery, tencel fabrics uphold their integrity wash after wash, retaining their vibrant color and silky smoothness.
From casual wear to formal attire, tencel fabrics cater to every occasion. The versatility of TENCEL fabrics knows no bounds, seamlessly adapting to various garment styles and designs. Whether you're lounging at home or attending a business meeting, TENCEL fabrics offer the perfect blend of elegance and ease.
Initially, Tencel was presented as an alternative to cotton, even to organic cotton. This is indeed the case for certain applications, but Tencel still has its own unique look and feel and gives a different feel than cotton. Within the world of sustainable textiles, it is an addition with its own character.
All Tencel fabrics from Ecological Textiles, both knitted and woven, are produced in Turkey, in the same factories where our organic cotton fabrics are made.
Even though it is a man-made fibre, we at Ecological Textiles consider it a sustainable choice. The raw material (eucalyptus wood) comes from a renewable source, the pulping of the wood takes place in a closed loop system. Also important: the fibre absorbs dyes well, which means that fewer (synthetic) dyes need to be used.
