Sweat fabric made from organic cotton and hemp

Unbrushed, navy blue organic cotton (70%) and hemp (30%) sweat, a high-quality fabric that is both soft and luxurious. Compared to sweat made of 100% cotton this fabric is a bit livelier because the yarns are slightly irregular. It is the hemp that makes the difference and also gives the fabric a slightly different grip.
With its weight of 360 gr/m2, this fabric is both versatile and durable. The loop knit that characterises the sweat gives a great moisture absorption capacity, as well as softness and comfort. That makes this fabric ideal for loungewear, among other things. The fabric is made in Turkey from Aegean organic cotton and hemp that was grown in Europe.

The blending of hemp and organic cotton

We consider hemp and (organic) cotton to be two complementary materials. Apart from the physical differences we see in textiles, the two fibres have their specific properties in terms of e.g. elasticity, insulating capacity, etc. In hemp/cotton blends, the best of two worlds is united in one fabric.

Many consumers consciously choose hemp because its cultivation does not have a major impact on the environment and because the plant has few requirements (water, soil structure) and therefore grows well in many places. For this reason, we would actually prefer more hemp, but at present both the scale of cultivation and processing is very limited.

By blending hemp with organic cotton, more hemp can be processed and more people can thus come into contact with this versatile material. Moreover, the addition of cotton reduces the price and makes a more elastic yarn that is easier to work with, especially in the knitting process, than yarn made of 100 per cent hemp.
