Heavy hemp and organic cotton rib 1x1 fabric

Rib 1x1 jersey fabric made from a blend of hemp (52%), organic cotton (42%) and elastane (6%), OCS certified. The addition of a significant proportion of hemp makes the fabric feel slightly cooler, more dry and gives it a somewhat irregular structure when compared to 100 percent cotton fabrics. With its weight of 390 gr/m² this fabric is perfect for e.g. the edging of sweaters. For customised colours a minimum of 300 meter is required.

The blending of hemp and organic cotton

We consider hemp and (organic) cotton to be two complementary materials. Apart from the physical differences we see in textiles, the two fibres have their specific properties in terms of e.g. elasticity, insulating capacity, etc. In hemp/cotton blends, the best of two worlds is united in one fabric.

Many consumers consciously choose hemp because its cultivation does not have a major impact on the environment and because the plant has few requirements (water, soil structure) and therefore grows well in many places. For this reason, we would actually prefer more hemp, but at present both the scale of cultivation and processing is very limited.

By blending hemp with organic cotton, more hemp can be processed and more people can thus come into contact with this versatile material. Moreover, the addition of cotton reduces the price and makes a more elastic yarn that is easier to work with, especially in the knitting process, than yarn made of 100 per cent hemp.
